San Luis Central does not store cars to my knowledge. They were asked if they could be used as a place to put cars while they were being sorted out. They said.....
"no..."
They still work 5 days a week with an SW and a GE 70 tonner. The two diesels represent 2/3 of the SLC's entire locomotive roster history.
The old SSLV gets into the storage act too. A scrap yard was created out on the end of the remaining track and some storage track added out there. Some years back 33 miles of baretable intermodal flats got cut up there. Initially, they wanted to cherry pick the cars to be cut up. They eventually came to the same choice of waiting for the equipment trust to expire on the whole 33 miles and cut them all up at once. The SSLV 500 home made diesel is still there.
Not knowing what is being released from storage it's hard to tell if the cars are going back into service or going to scrap.
Ya know, if one were REALLY interested, they do have a telephone in the ALA office, and one could call to find out. Or stop by the yard office yourself. The last I heard they don't bite and they have all had their shots......
