Last year, in the spring, they took cars from west of Alamosa, and stacked them all the way from Antonito (stuffing the Antonito yard), to within a few miles of Alamosa. More than 23 miles of cars, all told. Left them there for maybe around 10 days, then, moved them all back. It was solid cars all the way, except for La Jara, including a number (around 100) of what seemed to be "showroom new" tankers. I remember thinking what a PIA it would be to break the strings for every road and driveway, and field entrance (which they did.)
I don't know why they did it, and remembered thinking, what a sh*tload of fuel that would take...
During the Friends works sessions, I drive route that pretty much twice a day, but I don't focus on it because it's NNG.
Whatever that red stuff is that they load in Antonito, they had a score of loaded cars of it in the yard in Alamosa (pre-positioned, in other words), which they usually don't, maybe because the line was blocked. AFAICT, that business is still active (this year), with -at least- one train a week (last year).
This was roughly in June of 2016.
