I have seen this picture before. Several things to note: the hideous cab, no cross compound air compressor, generator behind the smoke stack, painted side rods, and the worst part, no visor on the headlight!!!
As a modeler, one thing I see that I am curious about; notice how far the rear tender truck is tucked in to the frame, away from the coupler. The bigger the difference between tender and rolling stock, the more it will bind on a curve. If you look at more modern steam locos, the front tender truck is set back, to compensate for the draw bar distance, while the rear truck is closer to the end to match freight and passenger cars. I wonder if this was ever a problem on the narrow gauge railroads, where turns were tight...
