Imagine if 7-foot gauge had become the standard, instead of 4'-8½" -
And what a Big Boy would be like if enlarged proportionately – nearly 1.5 times as wide, 1.5 times as tall and 1.5 times as long = more than 3¼ times the volume and therefor also 3¼ times as heavy. To keep everything anywhere close to proportion, you'd have to hire only the tallest 10% of the NBA as the crew, and even then they'd look pretty small!
