Evidence is a bit thin on the ground, like on most stuff ca 1930. Lew Lathrop was running the Gunnison-Montrose-Ouray passenger until he moved to the Montrose-Grand Jct. train in 1927. He says in "Little Engines & Big Men" (ch 27, pg 313) that his engine on 315/316 was the 169. She doesn't show up on the Santa Fe run in photos, AFAIK, before the Otto Perry ones from 1933 you mention. Most photos I've seen of the Santa Fe branch passenger late '20s-early '30s I've seen have 167, 174 or 175 on the point.
Something that might be worth a check, if I ever have money to visit Gunnison again, the Normal scholl t Gunnison (now Western State) is sid to have held a yearly picnic on the Pitken branch in the '20s, using a T-12 (with C-16 as helper, if needed)[CRA #12, pg149]. Not sure how long that lasted after the mid '20s cited in the book but it might be worth dropping by the WSU Savage Library and seeing if they have yearbooks from the era and if there are pictures and/or text about the picnics? Or maybe they were covered in the Gunnison Times?
Wish I'd thought of that when I lived there...
