The two enginemen referred to in the union newspaper must have been hostlers. Samuel Brown and Thomas Dodds were not promoted engineers when this accident occurred. Brown was hired as a fireman on 8-25-1909 and Dodds was hired on 10-2-1909.They were No. 76 and 77 in seniority in 1920. Both were promoted to engineer on 9-20-1918.
Brown was gone by 1940.Dodds was No. 4 in seniority in 1958 and retired some time after that. The diesels of 1958 didn't have boiler explosions.
Dodds was born in 1886 and died in 1971. Brown was older, born in 1872 and died in 1951.
