The track visible in the first picture is for car storage. Salida-bound trains would leave their Alamosa and valley cars there. It would have been interesting to watch a switching operation as this track had a switch on only one end. It would have been easy if the Valley train had a rear pusher. Some imagination would be required if there was only one engine.
I think there was also a siding at Mears Junction but I will have to defer to the experts on that one.
