As I understand it, 666 or 13 were generally
not considered numbers that a hogger would feel ill-at-ease while running (though the ET&WNC
did skip 13 for their locomotive numbers on their ten-wheelers).
I talked with a SP steam engineer in the 90s and he said other numbers were considered unlucky, but I can't recall what they were. They were not numbers the layman would ever think of as unlucky.
