I think 473 also got clobbered by a backhoe doing work along the track. It hit 473 hard enough to rip open the main reservoir on the fireman's side.
She has led a pretty tough life in the last 65 years.
There were a few people who said 483 was bad luck engine, owing to her wreck in 1958 that killed Paul Mayer. None of the old heads in Alamosa thought so. In fact Eldon thought 483 was one of his favorite locomotives.
489 derailed, rolled over and killed her engineer below Cresco in 1926. It didn't seem to hurt her reputation at all.
