The 1981 season ground to a halt on Sunday, Oct 11. George and I ran 488 up the hill with 12 cars and came back with 487 and 16 cars. I don't know where the extra cars came from.

The next day Marvin and I ran 488 back to Chama with the Antonito consist of 11 cars. I remember that day being cold and rainy.

But, we weren't done yet. We had contracted to do a film shoot for a PBS Television program entitled "The Legend of Gregorio Cortez". They used 489 and assorted cars, all lettered of the "Texas Pacific Railroad". 489 was represent two different locomotives - "489" and "48", by simply masking out the "9". Marvin ran, I fired. Gary Getman was the conductor. The first day we shot in Chama with a passenger train consisting of the Hinman and RPO 54 that had been sided with a façade that made it look like a coach. This had been done a few years before. The first day of shooting was on cold rainy, Wed. Oct 14

Here Chama is sitting in for "Gonzales" Texas (I think)

The movie crew went elsewhere for a few days and came back on Monday, Oct 19. We had a train of Cook Car 053, 3 stock cars, a cut to gon idler flat, and 0503
We ran up to Lobato early in the morning and sat next to the Weed City movie prop depot all day, not moving an inch. Such I life in the movie biz. Marvin looks totally bored sitting on the ground playing with rocks......

The next morning we were back in Chama shooting with the passenger train. After they were done we gathered all of the cars, added another flat loaded with the movie outfit's generator, a 6500 flat that was to be converted to a passenger car that winter and headed for Antonito, departing at 152. Here we are charging up the hill at MP 337.

We departed Cumbres at 310, were through Osier at 410, Got water at Sublette departing at 515 and rolled into Antonito at 710pm.
