I was engineer on the road engine (489) for the 50th Anniv. RMMRC trip. Moose Anderson was my fireman. Both of us were Rocky Club members. Russ Fischer ran 488 as helper. I don't remember his fireman.
A few days later I was asked to go over to Durango and speak at the banquet. It was quite an honor to be chosen to do that. The other speaker was Charlie Bradshaw. So, for speakers, we had the owner and savior of the Silverton Branch, and....... an engineer. That we kind of odd. It worked out OK Charlie did a prepared speech expounding on all the cool stuff that had and was happening on the D&S. I gave a little current event talk, and opened it up for drawn out Q&A session.
