I'm quoting Bob Richardson in a book published by CRRM in the 1970's as listing the half-flanges as being amoung the work C&S did on 346 after her accident in '36. I don't know his source but from all I've ever seen he was a stickler for accuracy so I assume he had one.
Also, given how little 346 was used after coming back and given that D&RG(W)/RGS 2-8-0's all had blind intermediate drivers, I really can't see either D&RGW or RGS doing this in the 1940's. Why would they?

ps I also tend to be more than a little bit of a doubting Thomas as to photographic evidence. Much interpretation involved, not to mention often shaky dating of pics...
