The original pin truss across Clear Creek was put in crooked. The Surveyor accidentally put the downhill end 12" too far to the outside of the curve. What this did was put the track in the cut too close to the wall plus a kink in the curve. Even with the #40 and the #44 clearances were VERY tight. The Shays no problem. Ah memories.
