I found out last time I was in Durango that they were trying to get rid of 498 for 464, they also said they would rebuild 498 for that trade and any trade. I also found out that they really tried getting rid of 498 for other locomotive power (I heard something about two small mikados in a shed) but I think the 478 trade happen since the 478 was at 1472 (I think that is what it is) and they wanted stronger power so they wanted the 483 for that instead of rebuilding 478 and just go right for 483 since they already have done a rebuild at that scale before.. My biggest surprise is that the D&S did not rebuild 498 or 493 since they can actually run on the high line after I did some research. Also the D&S almost went for 463 by trading 498 for it. I feel like their might be another trade in the future but we will have to wait. Also the reason 483 and 498 were not traded was probably because that would have been more money for the D&S to restore two locomotives rather than one.
