Chuck up a dull drill bit, say a 1/32" one, in a Dremel motortool. Drill into a lump of Hesperus bituminous with a bit of force at full 17,000 RPM to heat the drill. You'll get a delightful whisp of coal smoke that will fill the model train room for hours with that sweet delicious aroma. Mmmmmm. Just like being there. It never actually burns and a good chunk of coal is good for hundreds of applications.
Genuinely certifiable train crazy.
