There is somewhat of a mystery connected to the photograph. I was under the impression that No. 9 was ALWAYS displayed at the Hill City depot, but the photo clearly shows it at the end-of-track in Keystone. How and why did a cash-strapped operation like the Black Hills Central move this engine 10 miles from it's former display site? The engine could have traveled over narrow gauge third rail for at least five of those miles, but the remaining five would have had to been done by truck. The photographer mentions that this was 1985 - about the time Bill Heckman was fighting with the BN over ownership of the locomotive. Could they have been trying to hide it? This is the first photo I have ever seen that shows the 9 in Keystone.
