You guys are too nice. I am not the only one working at Long Leaf by far.
John Weiss (Wayne's Brother, if you know Wayne) and David Hamilton have done far more for Long Leaf than I will ever do. They have volunteered at Long Leaf for more than 15 years now. They have repaired and restored beams and floors in the planer mill, and have spent 10 years and their own money restoring one of the two McGiffert loaders at the museum.
Richard Grigsby and others spent countless hours and weeks cleaning and clearing in the initial phases of the museum.
What we have at the museum today and what very little that I have done, is only the tip of the iceberg as to what has been done by many others to preserve the unique treasure that is Long Leaf.
For those of you who have never had the opportunity to visit Long Leaf, I strongly urge you to do so if you ever get within driving distance.
Long Leaf has survived for 20 years without any state or local government funding which is nothing short of a miracle in today's preservation world.
My fondest wish for Long Leaf would be that we have a cadre of dedicated volunteers who could get together several long weekends a year to do a few more of the projects that we need doing
For the record, 100% of the proceeds from the book above go to the museum and help keep things open and running.
OH, and we finally can take credit cards....
