Why 1472 days? The reason is that the FRA inspection calendar is
not based upon a 365 day year -- but rather on a
92-day quarter. As stated above the time period was lengthened to the equivalent of 4 years. Now that is 16 quarters:
(16 quarters) x (92 days/quarter) = 1472 days.
There are certain inspections that are required monthly, quarterly (92 days), annually, etc. If you do your quarterly inspection on the same date of every third month it will never be more than 92 days between inspections.
The big one of course is for the boiler at 15 years or 1472 days with fire in the fire box. Depending on the annual days operated one or the other will come up first.
Before the current requirements, the old ICC rule was to count by months and one hot day would equal the whole month. That is one reason the old extensions were allowed.
