Interesting story about the Fifi crew. One of the reasons they may have been so embarrassed is that one of the pilots is the only FAA check ride instructor for the B29's (all 2 of them now) and probably didn't want the FAA learning of his screwup.
They do think very highly of themselves though and I have wondered if their attitude isn't proportional to the size of aircraft they fly. My first encounter with the Fifi crew was at the ANG base with my dad. They asked him if he had any hours in a 29 and dad answered "about 650" (probably more hours than half of Fifi's crew combined.) From then on it was roll out the red carpet for him. Remembering that event and then getting 'attitude' later made me wonder which face they were putting on today.
I remember that event when we go out to work sessions and do my best to greet any visitors who may stop by and answer any questions they may have. 'No Fifi crew attitude' allowed on my watch.
