When the S.P. compared the two roller-bearing Daylight 4-8-4 GS-5's to their otherwise identical GS-4 sisters with spring-pad oil lubrication, the improvement wasn't enough to justify conversion of any existing engines from oil-lubed axles to roller bearings. All S.P.'s future passenger power did have roller-bearing axles, but unfortunately they were all diseasels . . .

* IIRC, the GS-5's had roller bearings on all axles (#4458 had Timkin bearings, #4459 had Symington), but neither had roller bearings on the rods.
