One of the things I am looking forward to with the October charter is the recreation of the long eastbound freights with one engine that once wound their way down the east side of Cumbres around so many sweeping curves. These were perhaps not as dramatic as the smokey hard working Cumbres turns, but the long trains snaking around the curves provided some fascinating photo ops. Here are two from the good old days.
The long two engine train from Antonito last October demonstrated how successful the Friends have been at preserving the old freight equipment. This October will be another opportunity for some neat pictures that both showcase the Friends efforts but also create how it was on the DRGW. Michael Allen is hard at work picking some really neat photo locations, and the schedule will be driven by the best lighting.
