I have to say, that was wonderful, to get such a refined down to earth answer. Thank you drpaulson for your willingness to share this information with us. I too have been to Ouray many times but didn't realize that there were so many smelters in such a small area at one period of time. All served by the Rio Grande. So I am taking it that the big minning boom in that area died after the war in the mid-50's. I think a visit to your museum is in order for my next visit, I have more questions that a museum would more than likely answer just by viewing it's contents.
