OK this is very much NNG, but at least the DRGW ng. was still running when I took it (November 11, 1961). So it is old. We have a bunch of folks from the Rocky Mountain area here and I was wondering if anyone can identify the location. The 844 is headed from Cheyenne to Ogden with an R&LHS special. It is somewhere west of Cheyenne, I am guessing west of Laramie, and clearly the two main tracks have separated a bit. The 844 had left Cheyenne ahead of "the fleet" so at some point we went into the hole for at least two passenger trains to run around us. We had probably left Cheyenne around 8 a.m., an hour and a half or so ahead of City of LA, City of SF, City of Portland, City of St. Louis fleet. We had made one photo runby on Sherman Hill, but other than that we were running fast (at some point I clocked the train at 100 mph, I assume UP had ATS in those days). We were running fast enough that we caught up with the regular passenger that had run around us at its next station stop. Any ideas?
