Thanks for the clarification, James!
Along with comments from JBWX and Greg, it's pretty clear that after 50-plus years my memories of three sorta-similar trips with more-or-less the same locomotive at the same time of year got scrambled pretty well.* I found another set of negatives, in a holder labeled '621118', so it again seems I must have once again started the day with a roll of Kodachrome (slides not yet located) on Nov. 18, 1962, and switched to B&W upon our early-afternoon arrival in what I believe to be Laramie
:
The above first shot on the roll does not indicate whether my memory of this trip with newly renumbered U.P. 8444 had started in Denver, but the very next frame does confirm that at least one of those three autumn excursions on the U.P. mainline in the early sixties did have ex-C&S (Burlington) business car #96 as its "caboose"
:
Unfortunately, my first trip aboard the Alamosa Kiwanis Club's Kolor Karavan six weeks earlier had resulted in my dad's old Praktica coming down with a bad case of D&RGW coal-smoke "cinderitis", with the result that as the diameter of the roll on the uptake spool increased so did the intensity of the scratches on the film
. . . The subsequent shots - after a VERY long delay while the engine and her 4-10-0 centipede tender were SLOWLY inched around the stiffly frozen wye - were of an eastbound run-by on Sherman Hill. None of those shots are worth the effort of editing, even for a low-res web display.

* As of this first edit, I can't remember what the asterisk (above) was going to point to. Oh, well - just another example of fading memory!
Maybe it's 1) 1960: Cheyenne - Rawlins & Return. 2) 1961: Cheyenne - Ogden. 3) 1962: Denver(?) - Laramie & return (Cheyenne -
Denver at night w/ diseasels(?)).
