Bob, thanks for sharring the story with us. Hauling a diesel engine was for sure not a easy task. And all narrow gauge fans today can be happy that some peoples start to save this interesting engines. Without all your help, the may gone. Scrapped, etc......
Thanks for that! A part of O&RL was rescured.
I spoke with John Hammond and he told me that the two engines were not for the US Navy. The were otiginal build for the OR&L and as I mentioned earlier got the number 15 and 19 as result of the age of his two children when the engines arrived. But you are right, the US Navy diesel looked the same.
For your and the other pleasure, I added a image of the Pineapple in Chama in 1972. Ready to run. And I would be happy to see the engine in a diiferent color. Thanks again for your report.
