Hi,
I was contacted a few months ago by a fellow who wants to do a historical survey of the buildings along the Gainesville Midland Monroe Branch. We have the 1917 era valuation reports for the line.
The line was built in the Georgia Piedmont - not the mountains.
The curves are in the 2-8 DoC (degree of curvature) range not surprisingly. Interestingly enough, there are about half a dozen that exceed a DoC of 10 with the maximum DoC being 16 degrees. This occurs where there are several buildings nearby. I will see if the buildings or the railroad was there first.
FWIW
