It is interesting that the D&RGW did not introduce any of the engines in numerical order. The mudhens, the 470s, 480s, and 490s. In the case of the 480s, they didn't all come into Salida at the same time. Seems as if they came in a few at the time over a month or so. At Salida, they were unloaded via a ramp. But when the 490s came to Alamosa, they were unloaded by overhead crane. Have an account of the problems they had unloading the first one. It would interesting to know if they were shipped from Alco and Baldwin in numerical order.
