Chris turned up a bunch of pictures of Beaver Brook over on the C&Sn3 forum* which I believe show that the switch stand there went from:

~1875: harp stand with red/white oblong target
~1885: harp stand with white double-diamond target
~1890: Elliot with white rectangular target above a red circular target

I wonder if the D&RGW followed a similar colour progression?
