That area is loaded with patented mining claims from Ophir up to Matterhorn. If it could be determined that the trucks are on private property rather than USFS lands, then the feds have no say over the matter. But it would be a daunting task to get the property corners located by digging in the records in the Telluride courthouse, then actually finding the property corners, and then getting a property owner to agree to the "donation." Both the BLM and USFS takes a prove us wrong attitude in the mining areas around us until you prove them wrong, then they leave you alone. Only government surveyors can determine property corners involving federal lands, or a U.S. Mineral Surveyor, who as a private contractor is recognized by the feds as an equal to a government surveyor. The county surveyor in San Juan County is a U.S. Mineral Surveyor, and about the only one on Colorado's western slope. They are not inexpensive.
