This is only one of the many adventures of John Sexton and other characters on the E&P / EN. I can't think of any other narrow gauge railroad that can compete with what they got into.
In the early days of the E&P there were "bloodthirsty" fights between the railroad men, townfolk and Indians for the benefit of the passengers of the transcontinental railroad. Fights with the Public Utilities Commission, Railroad Commission and tax commission were common. The railroad was plagued by snow, floods, and what not. I hope one day soon a history of this colorful NG railroad will be out for all to enjoy.
