Ah-yup - #482 & #492 it was -
A couple of days later they were joined by #463, recently arrived from Antonito
:
IIRC, #463 was pulled from Antonito to Cumbres by #19 on the same day as the Toltec Rattler ran from Chama to Big Horn and return - Oct. 22, 1972. Exactly when and how #463 got from Cumbres to Chama, I do not remember - and don't remember how I missed that adventure unless it was after sunset on the 22nd when I was chasing the Rattler's chase train back to Chama (see my previous post).
I'm fairly sure that the train crew took a day off on October 23rd, after the Moonlight Dinner Train on the 21st and the very long day with The Toltec Rattler on the 22nd, so I believe the above - and the following - were taken on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 1972. At first glance I thought they were from the afternoon before the dinner train on the 21st, but then #463 wouldn't have been there. DUH!!
Here are Richard Braden and Jim Shawcroft helping the hostler get #483 ready to haul a short train of empties up the hill. As proof of my increasing geezerhood, I have no memories of this train - on which Richard had apparently arranged for me to ride - and I was very surprised to discover these negatives in an old binder
:
Eventually Jim retrieved the train from the yard, and after a brief consultation with his crew we got underway
