Make sure what you are getting when you buy a cheepy. We had a HP machine (old unreliable mark II)- unfortunately, when it came time to upgrade (read: our machine was no longer supported by our ISP, and the modem was to slow to stay connected), the only real choice was a whole new machine. HP used a proprietary (is that the word?) mother board and other parts, and the upgrade board was going to cost almost as much a comparable new machine with better peripherals.
