The A - frames in the center of the drop bottoms do have a little bit of history as the Durango & Silverton installed them in some of the drop bottoms that they used in ballast service in the early 1980's.

Attached photo shows D&RGW / D&SNG 705 sporting an A frame in September of 2004. The A frame was removed as part of the car's conversion to Georgetown Loop passenger car 705. In the useless trivia department, No. 705 now calls the Midwest Central in Iowa home.
