NOT 'The Mad Dash', but almost eight years earlier -
IIRC, the Iron Horse June Journey of 06/03-05/60 was sponsored as a fundraiser by the La Jara
Chamber of Commerce. SFAIK, this was one of the last few times that a K-28 pulled a passenger
train over Cumbres Pass, since business had increased on the Silverton Train enough to keep the
K-28s in Durango for the entire season and thus unavailable for the annual Kiwanis Karavans and
other fall-colors charters.
Will a scene like this be possible in the next year or two?
