Geez Jerry I am not really sure now. The caboose was outside frame for sure. I know they used it in 1992 as a caboose for 484 taking a load of ballast to Antonito(Cars were in the wye), after 484 was one of the helpers on a 3-engine train Chama-Cumbres. The 0503 was used on the freight(behind the rear pusher which was 497). I rode in the 0503 during one of the runbys.
I am aware of a caboose that was built by the C&TS and has a potty in it, but I thought it was 03 something. We used that one in 1997, cause the 0503 was out of service at the time. This long caboose was lettered Rio Grande. This was before the 0579 was rebuilt.
So how many do they have operational now 3 OR 4? I always thought the outside frame caboose was taken back to its original configuration, but one of the Friends would know better than I.
