The National Radio Observatory at Green bank has great free public tours. I'm not sure of the schedule these days, but they offer several each day. It's a really cool tour, especially in contrast to riding at Cass.

There are some other attractions in the area, such as the Pearl S. Buck homesite at Hillsboro and the Droop Mountain Civil War battlefield site. There are also some cool state parks in the area.
