Right, I think something that would be very helpful to me would be working representations os all the different types of valve gear. I once read an artivle in TRAINS magazine but it really helps to see all the different parts labeled and working together. It would also be helpful to have a narration of why the different types of valve gear designs were developed, the pros and cons of each, what roads used them and on what engines they were used. If there were something small that could be sort of a hands on display where someone could actually set the J-Bar forward and back this would be very interesting and helpful. I think a lot of people know steam locomotives need a fire and water, but dont understand the concept of how they actually work the cylinders. The valve gear is a bit tricky to understand and a visual hands on display would be very helpful. As for brakes, I havent even gotten to studying those yet so anything that would help one to learn how to work and use them would be very helpful.
