MSTS is a very flexible sim and locomotives can be made to behave quite realistically. Getting realism from the product requires a good deal of knowledge about the prototype. Many default .eng files are not very good, so some tinkering with them may be needed to get satisfactory results.
I have the K-36 shown in the photos and it is a very well down virtual model. It includes an excellent backhead (cabview in MSTS teminology).
