Dunno about the NG stuff, however I've driven "Green Arrow" and used the techniques to drive "Flying Scotsman" on MSTS and it behaved much as the real thing does - apart from the noise/vibration/heat etc of course.
("Green Arrow" is effectively a 2-6-2 version of "Flying Scotsman"
