Have you been able to find any more information about the Round Mountain Railroad? There are files about the company and the railroad in the Jack Bowden Railroad Collection. It is located in the Shaw Library at the Oregon Institute of Technology. I don't know how extensive the files are but the librarians will look into them for you if you are interested. The files on the narrow-gauge railroad and lumber company are in Box 3 - Terry Lumber Company, Round Mountain, Box 4 - Terry Mill and Box 5 - Terry Lumber Company.
I am researching two men who worked on the Round Mountain section gang from 1910 to as late as 1915. The men were Muslims from the Punjab Province of India and came to California in 1906. They likely worked on the construction of the Western Pacific before coming to the Terry Railroad.
Have you found information on the Bank of Shasta County? Terry and several other businessmen took out large loans on the bank and it was forced to close, leaving depositors in the lurch. The bank was sold and eventually the depositors received 92% of their money but that took until 1915 for the final payment to be made.
I understand the Shasta County Historical Society has pictures and information on the lumber company and railroad.
And as for the book "Chips and Sawdust", you can purchase it on Amazon. I just bought a copy and am waiting for its arrival.
The attached files is one of an accident on the line in 1910.
