I lived a few years in Taiwan and photographed just about everything then (in mid-1970s). There were hundreds of steamers on the main lines: Japanese built 2-6-2Ts, 2-8-0s, 4-6-2s, and 2-8-2s. It was paradise. Accross from the Chia-yi station (where the Alishan line headed east and up into the clouds, was the sugar plantation lines with miniture steamers, some from Belgium. And I photographed them all. Even the non-connected 2 foot line on the east side with all its American made steamers sitting silently waiting for someone to buy them.
