Hold the phone---Whats with that green jacket? Secondly
I thought you were saying steam is better than diesels, yet there is
a stinkin diesel behind the 610. Hard to believe with as big of an engine that 2-10-4 is. Nice catching the 4449 with it though.
Southern had some issues with 610, which is why they got rid of it. Next up was ExCPR 2839, then Ex C&O 2716 which didn't even last a full two years, and after that 611 was running in 1982.
All engines were Southernized except for 611 which remained Norfolk and Western. It will be N&W again in May, but they added a goofy name to it now "Spirit of Roanoke". After seeing this copyright deal they are starting I am wondering about "The Spirit" thing!!!!
Look for a piece about this issue in Trains Newswire sometime Friday(Today). They contacted me for comments.
By the way Russ, the candlesticks and Eagle were later used on 2716. I only saw 2716 one time. Its very similar to the 765, and other 2-8-4's built by Lima around this time. Its back at the Kentucky Railway Museum on display, last operating for the Fort Wayne Historical Society on a handful of trips in 1996.
More info than you ever wanted to know on a NG board, eh!
