We cannot forget the 2-10-4 610 was used for a portion of the Freedom Train, then was leased to the Southern Railway for a couple of seasons.
I got to see it once on a trip from Louisville to Danville, KY. In 1977 when it was in Cincinnati we missed it cause we were in South Africa shooting regular service stuff. My dad and a couple of friends chased it and the photos were horrid, cause it was 95-100 degrees and nothing but smoggy looking pics. Nothing worse than steam in mid-summer in most of the US(Colorado would be the exception).

PS I did see 610 running at the 1976 NRHS convention, and it pulled a train to Bluefield and had some issues. Then it doubleheaded with 4501 the next day up "Blue Ridge" grade toward Lynchburg. That was the Norfolk and Western in those days, now Norfolk Southern.
