Thanks for calling attention to the location of the dispatcher. I wonder if the Baker depot made more sense for the dispatcher due to interchange with UP there? I believe Mal Ferrell got the crew call board that we have today hanging in the Sumpter depot out of the Baker depot. I assumed it had been moved there from S.Baker, because that is where the engine terminal was, but perhaps the depot was more the nerve center for daily operation. The S.Baker 2 story office bld. housed the engineering office, as well as the auditor/accounting for SVRy. Oregon Lumber Co.'s main office was there as well as bookeeping/accounting for the Mt.Hood. RR. Originally the single story part of the S.Baker offices was a company store. As to turning the 250 and 251, there was a wye next to the S.Baker office. The attached map is 1942. There is at least one photo of one of the big engines turning on the wye at Tipton, and of course there was balloon loop at Austin.
