You have done a beautiful job on the Glenbrook. It clearly helps us to understand the role that railroads and locomotives played in the culture at that time. It also helps us understand why all little boys wanted to be an engineer.
I have heard though I don't now recall where that the front ends were covered with "stove polish". I remember using it on our coal cooking stove in Telluride as a kid but I never thought to find out what it was made of. When fresh it was kind of shiny black and kept the iron from rusting.
