I don't know, but I would think the D&RGW would have hauled carloads
of "company" coal (Likely from Monero or Walsenburg) down to the
end of the Santa Fe branch so as to have northbound engines coaled
sufficiently to make the upgrade trip from Santa Fe back to Alamosa.

I would wonder if a tankfull of coal put on at Alamosa and possibly topped off at Antonito would have been sufficient to make a round trip on a K28 down and back without adding any more at Santa Fe, but maybe it was....
