The Machu Picchu Train as this operation was called operated as a independent concessionair in that time frame. However their were two other operators on the 3 ft gauge line from Cusco to Aguas Caliente near Machu Picchu, Peru. The competition was difficult and Machu Picchu Train closed operations and merged with a competitor Inca Rail. Inca Rail operates a fleet of ex-Portugese DMU's that were rebuilt to three foot gauge. In fact they came from Yugoslavia originally and were 750 mm gauge.

Not sure of the disposition or if other units were shipped to Peru. When I talked to the owner of Inca Rail,he said "my units are direct transmission and the Machu Picchu Train has hydraulic transmission and can not keep up with the grade and altitude as well as expected".
