What a amazing find that is!
We had plenty of underlayer paint on 1008 of the same UP yellow color, which we found was the first color layer on the oldest pieces. That and this find should put to rest the urban legend/mis-interpretation that these cabeese were off/white or cream color in the waycar days.
Nothing near that interesting was found over the doors and under the platform facias on 1008. Just a plain wood spacing layer to fill the gap between the end header beam and surface facia. From June 2012:
We did like the evidence of a couple applications of the number on the facia itself. Any idea why a caboose would have an emergency cord hole in the end walls? Dispite being cracked into three pieces, we've repaired the two end facias for either preservation or reuse:
These comparisons are going to be interesting!
Thanks for posting.
