Philip,
I spoke with Roger Whitney regarding the bells on Monson engines 3 and 4. Roger believes that the bells currently on the locomotives are ones that Edaville placed on the engines in the 1940's. This means that the bells are most likely not the ones the engines carried in their years of service on the MRR. He did offer that the bells used on engines 3 and 4 in the 1920's and '30's could have been off of earlier locomotives but does not think they made it to Edaville. The Edaville Bells were probably war surplus since that size would have been available in the years after WWII.
Roger will look through his notes and advise if there is any further information regarding bell transfer among locomotives.
