In 1979 or 1980 the front tires were so badly worn on 484 that they were very nearly condemmed for high flanges. A special flange cutting shoe that was mounted in the brake head was used to cut the flanges down so we could get a few more seasons out of her.
Since 495 had thick driver tires that were in pretty good shape, in the fall of 1983(?) we drug it off of the display track in Antonito and hauled it to Chama in a hospital train. The drivers were then swapped between 495 and 484 as part of an overhaul to get it back in service again. 495 was later returned to the Antonito display track with 484s drivers under it.
